As we get ready for the CD release, we thought we’d write a little bit about our thoughts on recording the album.
Well, we started recording Both Before I'm Gone in Early Dec 2007. We decided to go with Erick Sanger and Gabe Gonzales (both formerly of Sparta) to produce the CD. Erick was also in theStart. Erick had shown up to one of our gigs a few years prior and dug us... and has always been really supportive. We did a 7inch with both Gabe and Erick and really liked their direction.
These songs are a mixture of old and new…to us anyways. Some songs such as Consider have been around for 6 years... and some about a year. We like to say this album as a whole was six years in the making . . . but we recorded it in only about a week. It was really easy since the songs have been around so long.
Jenn and I's fav at the moment is Clumsy Sky... I guess because we got to sing on it. Quick... but still. If you listen to the line, "We will be alone..." it’s all of us. Another top is In the Background. We decided on the handclaps at the last minute. We were joking around and were like, "Kenny (Laguna) loves handclaps. Let’s do it for him!!" But it turned out really neat. Nina free flowed the “muchisimas gracias” at the end there. Erick and Gabe had such great ideas, too. Overall we are really proud of this album... a lot of tears, anxiety, fear, happiness, loss and gain went into this record. Each song has its own meaning … but ultimately we hope it will mean something personal to everyone else who listens….
We hope you enjoy…
This Friday all of our fans in McAllen will have the first chance to listen to our CD at a special CD listening party. On May 5th, we’ll have our CD release party at Sam’s Burger Joint in San Antonio. We hope you’ll all make it out to celebrate with us.
